RavenFor website owners

Raven visited your site.

Raven fills in contact forms for businesses that want to reach yours. Here's what it did, and how to stop it.

The short version

  • ✓One short message from a real business, through your contact form.
  • ✓The same sender never comes back within 90 days.
  • ✓Forms that say "no solicitation" are always skipped.
  • ✓Reply "remove us" to stop that sender. To stop everyone, say "no solicitation" on your form, or block RavenBot in robots.txt.
01

Who sent the message.

A Raven customer: a business that chose to contact yours. They wrote the message, it carries their name and their details, and they'll read your reply themselves.

Raven only fills in the form for them. It doesn't sell your details, and it never emails you.

02

What Raven did on your site.

  • +Read your pages to find your contact form.
  • +Filled it in once with the sender's details and message, and sent it.
  • +Kept screenshots so the sender can see it was sent. They're deleted after 90 days.
  • xNever ticks newsletter boxes, creates accounts, attaches files, or sends to a form that asks for no sales messages.
03

How Raven identifies itself.

When Raven reads your pages, its requests carry its name and a link to this page:

Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; RavenBot/1.0; +https://raven.work/bot)

When it fills in your form, it uses an ordinary browser, the way a person would.

Raven honors robots.txt rules written for RavenBot. Catch-all rules for every bot (User-agent: *) don't apply to it.

04

How to stop it.

  • 1Stop one sender: reply "remove us" to their message. Raven won't contact you for them again.
  • 2Stop everyone: say "no solicitation" on your contact form. Raven skips forms that say so, for every customer.
  • 3Stop Raven visiting: add these two lines to your robots.txt.
